No.1, Shelton Street
No. 1, Shelton Street is a substantial rebuilding behind a retained façade of a late-18th century, four-storey, two-bay house occupying the plot of one of the original Thomas Neal developments. The window openings at first, second and third floor levels have flat, yellow-brick arches and contain 6-over-6 subdivided sash windows.
The shopfront has been excellently reconstructed to authentic, early-19th century detail and has been painted appropriately in dark grey and black.
The brickwork has been left clean to differentiate the new work from the surviving old house. The iron window-guards at first floor level contain attractive flower-boxes. There is a label with carved street-number on the fascias.
Though a substantial re-building of the original, 18th century property that once occupied the site, it is of particular architectural and historic interest and townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
