Nos. 17-19, Shelton Street
Listed at grade II*, nos. 17-19, Shelton Street comprise a pair of three-storey plus mansard, late-18th century reconstructions of the original 17th century houses - the only such properties in the Seven Dials Conservation Area. They have good late-18th century shopfronts of unusual design with paired, segmental-arched openings. The handsome hanging sign dates from the late-19th century.
These buildings are well-restored and excellently maintained. However, the yellow paint finish of the shopfronts is unduly bright.
The properties are of particular, special architectural and historic interest and townscape value contributing to the character appearance and significance of the Covent Garden Conservation Area.
The use of a darker paint colour for the shopfronts would be beneficial.
