No. 17, Monmouth Street
One of a pair, with no. 19, of four-storey properties refaced in the late 19th century in Suffolk brick with red brick window arches and band courses creating a polychrome effect. The shopfront retains good 19th-century console brackets at each end. The street level frontage has been well restored with carefully proportioned glazing and is currently painted off-white with a retractable projecting blind. There is a neat projecting hanging sign at first floor level.
Although unlisted, the property is of townscape value, contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
The brickwork would benefit from careful cleaning. There is scope for the provision of flower boxes in the window openings at first floor level.
