Appraisal

Nos 17-23, Earlham Street

A 1970s building designed by Richard Seifert and Partners with a four storey, red brick faced street elevation to Earlham Street with recessed open balconies and set-back top storey, extending eastwards to The Dials (with a short splayed elevation to The Dials and a long return elevation to Mercer Street, comprising flats (nos. 1 to 19, Earlham House) on the upper floors, accessed from an entrance in Mercer Street, above retail use at ground floor level.

Three, modern, extensively glazed shopfronts at ground floor level, with two, modest internally-illuminated, double sided, projecting box signs.

An unlisted building which plays an understated role in defining the north-west corner of The Dials, but otherwise undistinguished architecturally, neither contributing to nor detracting from the character, appearance or significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
