No. 19, Monmouth Street

Monmouth Street / Nos. 17-43 (odd): No. 19, Monmouth Street

Appraisal

No. 19, Monmouth Street

One of a pair, with no. 17, of four-storey properties refaced in the late 19th century in Suffolk brick with red brick window arches and band courses creating a polychrome effect. No. 19 (with no. 21 adjacent) is currently occupied by the Mon Plaisir restaurant (established in the 1940s). The shopfront retains good 19th-century console brackets at each end. There is a mansard attic storey at fourth floor level.

The street level frontage at no. 19 is of good quality Regency Revival design with distinctive rounded glass corners, finished in varnished timber, with a modern retractable projecting blind above, with an unpainted aluminium leading edge.

Although unlisted, the property is of townscape value, contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.

There is scope for a suitably designed projecting hanging sign and the provision of flower boxes in the window openings at first floor level.
