No. 22, Earlham Street
This Grade II Listed property is a late-18th-century reconstruction comprising a two-bay, three-storey street elevation to Earlham Street and a five-bay return elevation to the western side of the northern arm of Tower Court, with a clay tiled mansard roof and dormers above.
At ground floor level there is a very fine, late-18th-century shopfront which returns around the corner of Tower Court. To the rear, the flank of a three-storey extension dating from the late-19th or early-20th centuries fronts directly on to Tower Court.
The sash windows of the upper storeys have been restored: 6-over-6, subdivided sashes with lamb’s tongue profiled glazing bars similar to the originals. The Georgian shopfront is well painted and restored, but lacking its original glazing bars.
The property is of both particular architectural and historic interest and considerable townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
The brickwork of the upper floors fronting Earlham Street retains good quality tuck pointing which should be preserved and carefully repaired as necessary.
