Appraisal

No. 25, Mercer Street

Listed at grade II, no. 25 is a late-17th century house, re-fronted and the ‘shopfront’ added in the early-19th century. Restored as an integral part of Terry Farrell and Partners’ Comyn Ching Triangle development. No. 25 comprises a three-storey, two-bay, London Stock brick faced elevation with two, early-18th century 3-over-6 and 6-over-6 subdivided sashes above a restored, dark green painted, flush-beaded ‘shopfront’ containing a single 3-over-6 subdivided sash-window, with a mansard and old workshop dormer-window at roof level. The restoration has maintained the dark tones of the brickwork, and the joinery is appropriately coloured. It has a modern but appropriate numbered 'label' attached to the fascia

The property is of special architectural and historic interest and townscape value, contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.

It is important that the entire group of four historic buildings comprising nos. 19, 21, 25 and 27 is maintained to the same high standards in the future.
