No. 31, Neal Street
A well-preserved, four-storey, London Stock brick faced, grade II listed, early-19th century frontage with original, 6-over-6, subdivided sash windows in each of the two window openings at first and second floor levels and a subdivided, tripartite sash window in the single, wide window-opening at third floor level.
The property possesses a well restored, late-18th century shopfront incorporating the original pilasters flanking the door to the upper floors, and the dentil-cornice above the fascia – sadly, painted partly in white. At first floor level there is a projecting hanging sign.
A characteristic Georgian house. The raised and fielded panelled entrance-door to the upper floors and the fanlight above are good Georgian features.
A building of special architectural and historic interest and of townscape value, contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
The original design of the whole shopfront could be restored on the evidence of the surviving original parts. Such a historically accurate restoration and the repainting of the shopfront in an appropriate and consistent colour would enhance the conservation area.
