No. 33, Neal Street
A well-preserved, four-storey, London Stock brick faced, grade II listed, early-19th century frontage with original 6-over-6, subdivided sash windows in each of the two window openings at first and second floor levels and a subdivided, tripartite sash window in the single, wide window opening at third floor level.
The property possesses a well restored shopfront, painted mid-grey, incorporating a late-18th century ‘Gothick’ cornice and frieze (projecting as a canopy above the six-panelled entrance door to the upper floors). The three-part, half-glazed doors remain from the time when it was occupied by a barrow manufacturer, together with the rendered and painted stucco panel below the windows at second floor level which once carried lettering. However, the glazing in the fixed door-leaf is obscured with advertising.
A building of special architectural and historic interest with a shopfront of particular interest and of townscape value, contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
There is scope to remove the crudely fixed external lighting of the fascia improve the lettering on the facia and on the projecting, hanging sign.
