Appraisal

Nos. 4-10, Tower Street

A strongly modelled, late-19th century, utilitarian commercial building, faced in red brick with painted stone bands and mullions, comprising six bays, each with three sash-windows, on the upper floors above an original, painted stone entablature supported on wide piers-pilasters faced in red and black brick with modern glazed frontages at street level set between piers. The first and sixth bays at street level entirely filled with large, advertising images, detracting from the appearance of the building and the street-scene.

An unlisted building of considerable townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.

The large, advertising images should be removed from the first and sixth bays and glazing reinstated.
