No. 45-47, Endell Street
With a short return elevation to Short’s Gardens, no. 47 is a modern development of four storeys and five bays, faced in buff brick. It carries through the line of the parapet, the cornice running below the third floor level window openings and the alignments of the fenestration and the shopfront height of the 1840s terrace to the immediate north-west – the unlisted and probably rebuilt no. 49, Endell Street and the listed nos. 51 to 59 (odd), Endell Street.
The treatment of the restaurant frontages at ground floor level is exemplary. Whilst not conventional shopfronts, the painted and decorated stucco frontages are contained beneath an elegantly detailed cornice, with architraved window openings containing interesting windows in stained timber. The externally-illuminated dark green sign writing on the fascia is excellently done and enhances the conservation area. The soldier arched window openings of the upper floors contain neatly detailed, stained timber casements.
The property is of particular townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
