Return elevation to no. 14, Endell Street, and no. 49, Shelton Street
Forming the return to the four-storey, early-19th century terrace (shops, bars and cafe at ground floor with residential above) fronting Endell Street – nos. 14 to 20 (even), Endell Street, the flank elevation of no. 14 and no. 49, Shelton Street comprise a four-storey, London Stock brick elevation of three bays above two, separate shopfronts.
Only the left hand opening at first floor level and the three right hand openings at first, second and third floor levels contain 6-over-6, subdivided sash windows, all the others are blind.
The shopfront to no. 14 is entirely modern and of no interest being plain rendered and painted white, whilst that to no. 49 comprises a complete, black painted, traditionally detailed 19th century shopfront with a surviving scrolled console at the left hand end.
The overall building – including the terrace of which it forms part – is of particular architectural and historic interest and townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
This part of the conservation area would benefit considerably from the replacement of the existing shopfront with a new shopfront to traditional design and detail.
