Nos. 3-5, Earlham Street
This pair of four-bay, three-storey Dutch gabled frontages with original mansard above was built around 1890. There is a red brick elevation with stone dressings with interestingly varied windows. The pilasters and consoles at each end of the overall street elevations survive, together with the modern panelled doors serving the flats above - ‘No. 1’ at the left hand end and ‘Nos. 5-7’ at the right hand end – all painted in dark grey.
There are two modern shopfronts of traditional character painted in black in the bays in between. A thin, well-designed, internally-illuminated double-sided projecting sign is located at the left hand end and there is an externally-illuminated, double sided, projecting hanging sign at the centre.
An unlisted building of both architectural interest and townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
The visual impact of the two highly conspicuous burglar alarm boxes at the centre of the elevation should be mitigated by their removal and relocation.
