No. 5, Langley Street
Together with nos. 6, 7 and 8, no. 5, Langley Street forms part of the coherent group of Grade II listed, former brewery buildings. The building rises through four storeys and extends across four bays – each bay expressed with wide, segmentally-arched openings at first, second and third floor levels containing tripartite windows with subdivided sashes, and three, arched openings and one, wider square opening at ground floor level.
Most regrettably the stock brickwork of the entire ground floor storey has been overpainted in white. Two inward-opening glazed timber doors survive at second and third floor levels – the former with a projecting crane directly above the lintel.
A building of particular special architectural and historic interest and significance and of townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Covent Garden Conservation Area.
The sensitive removal of the overpainting in white of the ground floor storey is to be keenly encouraged.
