Nos. 50 & 52, Neal Street
Nos. 50 and 52, Neal Street comprise a pair of four-storey, late-Victorian, London Stock brick-faced properties with red brick segmental arches to the pairs of window-openings at first, second and third floor levels, with a mansard storey at fourth floor level. The sash windows are subdivided 2-over-2.
Regrettably, whilst the modern shopfronts of are of broadly traditional character, they are poorly detailed and, most importantly, they lack cornices. Both fascias carry applied lettering – that on no. 52 in red and black plastic.
A pair of properties of only modest architectural interest and townscape value, contributing only modestly to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
There is considerable scope to modify the shopfronts to provide more authentic traditional solutions – in particular, by the introduction of properly profiled cornices.
