No. 61, Endell Street
A distinctive grade II listed well preserved classically detailed two-bay, three-storey, 19th-century commercial building faced in red and London Stock brick with painted stone dressings.
The two upper storeys are faced in London Stock brick contained within three broad red brick pilasters of monumental character sporting foliated capitals. They support a well detailed cornice and frieze carrying the sign-written words ‘Latchford’s Ltd (Endell Street)’, which refers to its previous use as a woodyard. It is an excellent model of how signs should always be related to the architecture, and preferably painted in a good classic letter face.
The window openings at first and second floor have stone lintels and cills and contain 2-over-2 subdivided sashes. The ground floor comprises a clearly expressed framework of cornice and deep fascia, contained between double consoles, supported on three broad panelled pilasters of monumental character sporting foliated capitals, divided unequally into a wide gateway leading to the yard behind with timber boarded, metal framed gates and a narrower shopfront, with its original panelled, stone stall riser and a rigidly fixed projecting canvas canopy.
A listed building of particular special architectural and historic interest and townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
