Nos. 65-69, Endell Street
Nos. 63 to 69 (odd), Endell Street comprise a grade II listed terrace of four, four-storey, two-bay London Stock brick faced, late-18th-century properties surviving from the older street frontage incorporated into Endell Street when it was widened in the 1840s. The window openings at first, second and third floor levels have flat arches in red brick and contain 6-over-6 sub-divided sashes. A cornice runs along the terrace below the third floor (attic) level windows.
Regrettably, the much altered shopfront at no. 65 is painted white and a rigid, bright green Dutch blind fixed to the fascia concealing any signage below.
The Dutch blind should be removed in its entirety and the fascia made good. The whole shopfront should be repainted in a traditional darker colour and the fascia sign written.
The shopfront of no. 67 is also much altered and painted white. The lead sheet covering to the ledge above the cornice is slipping off. The ledge above the cornice of the shopfront needs to recovered in new lead sheet and the whole shopfront repainted in a traditional darker colour and the fascia sign-written.
Similarly the shopfront of no. 69 is much altered and painted white and the fascia carries oversized applied plastic lettering lit from above from an oversized lighting channel. The plastic lettering should be removed from the fascia together with the oversized lighting channel and the whole shopfront repainted in a traditional darker colour and the fascia sign-written.
All three are buildings of special architectural and historic interest and significance and (with the terrace of which it forms an integral part) of townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
