Nos. 7-13, Mercer Street
A large, four-storey, inter-War commercial building of six wide bays, one of which forms the entry to St Martin’s Courtyard-Slingsby Place, with a long elevation faced in red brick and render, extended and part reconstructed in recent years with a small shopping-mall.
There are two, relatively new plaques containing the Mercers' Company’s demi-Virgin heraldic device - The Mercer’s Maiden - on the parapets. There are neat, modern shopfronts between white pilasters on the ground floor and four externally-illuminated projecting signs.
A building contributing modestly to the character, appearance and significance of the Covent Garden Conservation Area.
It is important to maintain the restrained, neat signage that currently exists and not to allow uncontrolled signs.
