Nos. 73-77 (odd), Endell Street
Nos. 73-77 (odd), Endell Street comprises a four-storey, inter-War office building. The upper floors are faced in white painted render whilst the ground floor is faced in dark-grey painted render. The elevation of the upper floors is effectively divided into three parts – corresponding to the three, clearly defined bays at ground floor level - the parts containing two, three, and two window openings respectively, linked with subtle horizontal lines. The ground floor storey is subdivided with panelled pilasters into three wide bays below a cornice and deep fascia, divided into three parts with curiously detailed consoles. At the right hand end of the elevation is a further bay with window openings at the mezzanine levels above a semi-circular-arched opening at low level, which once formed the principal entrance to the upper floors, but regrettably altered to serve as a service access whilst retaining the elegant neo-Georgian fanlight. The windows of the upper floors are in painted steel with margin lights carried around each side. The subdivided casements at the centre of each window appear to have been lost. However those serving the mezzanine floors in the end bay have survived. The original frontage would have once possessed a more distinctive Art Deco character. The building has been decently restored with a well-designed ground floor glazed frontage incorporating margin lights reflecting the original fenestration. The dark-grey painted surrounds make an effective contrast to the upper floors. It is all suitably maintained.
Whilst at odds in style with the majority of buildings in the adjacent part of the conservation area, the building is of particular architectural interest and townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
