No. 79, Endell Street, The Swiss Church
Listed at grade II, The Swiss Church (Eglise Suisse) at no. 79, Endell Street was designed by George Vulliamy and completed in 1853. The painted stucco faced façade comprises an elegant elevation of Palladian character, three bays in width and two storeys in height. There are Ionic columns and giant pilasters supporting a bracket dentil cornice, against a background of channelled rustication. The central door has a console flanked entablature, and there is a semi-circular Diocletian window over. A handsome design which gives away its late date by slightly loose and florid detailing. The parapet is inscribed in deep Roman letters 'AD Eglise-Suisse MDCCCLV', an excellent detail. This is well-maintained, with dark cream painted stucco and black joinery. It contributes a dignified note to the streetscape, and requires no attention.
A listed building of particular special architectural and historic interest and significance and of particular townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
