No. 81, Endell Street
Listed at grade II, no. 81, Endell Street is a four-storey, three-bay, richly modelled painted stucco faced property with channelled pilasters at each corner, Baroque segmental pediments to the first floor window openings and a principal cornice running around the building above the second floor window openings. It was designed by Vulliamy at the same time as the adjoining Swiss Church of 1854. The ground floor storey has been spoilt by inappropriate alterations leaving three weakly proportioned semi-circular arched openings filled with glazed advertising boxes to each side of the central entrance.
Despite the unfortunate alterations at ground floor level, the building is of particular special architectural and historic interest and significance and of particular townscape value contributing positively to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
The weak arcading on the ground floor should be restored to the original Vulliamy design and all the poorly designed signage replaced with sensitively designed new signage of classical character.
