Nos. 10-12, Mercer Street, Mercers Walk
Taking the place of the long derelict Chertsey Chambers, the two separate parts of the recently completed Mercers Walk development fronting Mercer Street are located to either side of the newly created pedestrian route between Mercer and Shelton Streets. they comprise two, four-storey blocks of residential apartments above retail and restaurant units stretching north-eastwards towards the recently refurbished former brewery buildings fronting Shelton Street and Langley Street, converted for retail. Faced in red brick and white brick, precisely laid in stretcher-bond, with windows and painted, perforated metal screens set in deep reveals, the two blocks lack the robust, late-19th century character of Chertsey Chambers which they have replaced.
The new buildings and spaces make a modest contribution to the character, appearance and significance of the Covent Garden Conservation Area.
