Earlham House, nos. 17-23 (odd), Earlham Street and no. 35, Mercer Street
Occupying a key site on the western side of The Dials, Earlham House is a 1970s retail and residential building designed by Richard Seifert and Partners. It has a four-storey red brick faced street elevation to Earlham Street with recessed, open balconies and set-back top storey, extending eastwards to The Dials. There is a short, splayed elevation to The Dials and a long return elevation along Mercer Street.
Earlham House comprises flats (nos. 1 to 19 (consec.) on the upper floors, accessed from an entrance in Mercer Street, above retail use at ground floor level. There are three extensively glazed shopfronts at ground floor level, with two modest internally illuminated double sided, projecting box signs.
An unlisted building which plays an understated role in defining the north-west corner of The Dials, but otherwise undistinguished architecturally, neither contributing to nor detracting from the character, appearance or significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
