No. 2, Short’s Gardens
The return elevation to the grade II listed building, formerly The Grapes public house of 1835, fronting Seven Dials. It comprises a three-storey classically detailed, painted stucco-faced elevation of three bays at first and second floor levels with rusticated quoins at the corners below a full cornice and decorative parapet. The central tri-partite window at first floor level is contained within an aedicule (framed by columns on either side and a pediment above). The sash windows are undivided. The very fine, late-19th/early-20th century end pilasters of the three-bay ground floor storey of the former public house survive, faced in very attractive decorated faience tiling featuring vines and bunches of grapes.
A building of special architectural and historic interest and particular townscape value contributing substantially to the character, appearance and significance of the Seven Dials Conservation Area.
