No. 1, Mercer Street

No. 1, Mercer Street forms the long flank elevation of no. 124, Long Acre and is dated 1884. It is a good, four-storey, late-Victorian, commercial building, originally a fruit warehouse – faced with London Stock brick with red brick dressings. There are three wide bays to Mercer Street, with large glazed windows with central, iron colonettes as mullions. The building is well converted with modern shopfronts at ground floor level. A small plaque containing the Mercers' Company’s demi-Virgin heraldic device - The Mercer’s Maiden - is located at high level above the central window.

An unlisted building of townscape value contributing to the character, appearance and significance of the Covent Garden Conservation Area.

Future maintenance and management should respect the original tough Victorian commercial character.
