History

Mercer Street, which runs from Shaftesbury Avenue, over the Dials and through to Long Acre, takes its present name from the ground landlord, the Mercers’ Company, one of the oldest of the City of London’s ancient Livery Companies, dating back to the 14th century.

A recent development (2017) has been the opening up of a new access route, Mercer Walk, between this section Mercer Street and the parallel Langley Street. This is comprised of a ‘courtyard’ development of shops and restaurants with residential above, combining new build with redevelopment of an existing warehouse building.
